Timi Adelakun Makes History With 5.6 GPA, Becoming The School’s First Black Valedictorian

The 18-year-old has earned the highest recorded GPA at the Hollywood school.

The first black valedictorian of South Broward High School’s graduating class has a record-setting GPA.

“As of now, it’s a 5.6045,” mentioned senior Timi Adelakun. “I think by graduation it’ll go a little bit higher, but that’s my number.”

“It’s good, especially the history breaking part, that me being the first black valedictorian, and also me having the highest GPA in my school,” Adelakun mentioned. “It’s good to know.”

Adelakun mentioned his grades excelled early on in his life, and he stored them up ever since.

“South Broward sets you up to start off with college-level courses, so you’re pretty much in a good position GPA wise,” he mentioned. “South Broward High School, which is an Ace Program school, and each Ace class is a university credit. At the same time, they provide AP courses and at the same time they offer Broward College courses.”

Adelakun mentioned he has been taking all three of the courses provided during his time in highschool.

“I’ve been taking up 20 faculty programs worth of credit, and due to that, my AP credits, my Ace credits and my dual enrollment credits boost my GPA,” he mentioned.

“Once I was in highschool I used to be at all times just like the STEM-focused child. I used to be in calculus and biology, however at the same time I used to be doing extracurricular drama club/Thespian Honors Society,” Adelakun mentioned. “Through there I’ve been doing shows and competitions. Through that love of theater, I’ve discovered a technique to do both at the same time.”
