Nigeria records 245 new COVID-19 cases in one day, 76 in Lagos

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has confirmed that Nigeria recorded 245 new cases of the novel coronavirus, bringing the country’s total infections to 2,802.

This revealed in a tweet at 11:46 pm on Monday evening, May 4, by the NCDC. Based on the health agency’s breakdown the new infections, 76 are in Lagos, 37 from Katsina, 32 in Jigawa, 23 from Kano, and 19 within the FCT.

Borno recorded 18, Edo had 10, 6 in Adamawa. 5 each in Bauchi, Oyo and Ogun. Whereas Ekiti, Osun, Benue, Niger, and Zamfara states had 1 new case each.

The number of discharged individuals went from 400 to 417. 6 more fatalities recorded because the death toll rose from 87 to 93.

The health agency additionally noted that 9 cases previously announced as discharged cases were reported in error.

Subsequently, the overall number of individuals discharged is 417. In the meantime, one case reported in Nasarawa was a repeat test. The number of active cases within the state is 11.

That is the highest day by day number of confirmed cases reported to date within the nation. Since the index case reported in Nigeria back in February.

In other news, the presidential technical team deployed to Kano to establish the reason for current mass deaths recorded within the state has disclosed that coronavirus is answerable for the deaths.
