Governors awaiting President Muhammadu Buhari’s reply to their grievances on last week’s assault on Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum. They are also concerned regarding the general insecurity in the country.
These matters created the most important points of discussion at Wednesday’s meeting of the Nigerian Governors Forum.
Though the statement of the meeting is predictable today, The Nation collected that a number of of the governors expressed throughout the online meeting vented anger that such an attack hostile to a sitting governor could occur.
Zulum safe and sound, but two of his security aides wounded in the attack supposed carried out by Boko Haram fighters.
The governor blamed a number of of the troops on the Baga – Monguno road where the occurrence took place of sabotage. The military on Wednesday disagree with it, declaring its investigation did not disclose any form of sabotage.
The governors approved the position uttered in a letter to Governor Zulum on Monday by NGF chairman and Ekiti State Governor Kayode Fayemi.
The letter disapproved the “worsening security situation” in the nation as epitome of “our collective vulnerability and the fragility of the country’s security architecture.”
The letter also articulated the willingness of the governors to convene with the President and service chiefs to discuss “this worrisome and rapidly degenerating situation”
Wednesday’s meeting supported the plan to meet with the President while they wait for his action plan on the security situation.
On Tuesday after the National Security Council meeting, the President ordered rejig of the security apparatus of the country.
