Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo state won the certificate forgery suit started against him by the All Progressives Congress (APC) and one of its members, Edobor Williams.

According to The Nation, the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja discharged the suit on Saturday, January 9.

Justice Ahmed Mohammed said that the plaintiffs failed to prove their claim that Obaseki forged the academic certificates that he submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The judge allegedly rebuked the plaintiffs for failing to make any attempts to cross-check from the University of Ibadan and the West African Examination Council (WAEC) that originated the certificates they claimed Obaseki forged.

University of Ibadan cleared the debate surrounding the credentials of Governor Obaseki after the institution presented his certificate to the court.

Obaseki opened his defence on Tuesday, January 6, with a senior official of the university, Abayomi Samuel Ajayi, who is the deputy registrar (legal) in court to present documents, including the original copy of the Bachelor of Arts certificate issued to the governor in 1979.

Ajayi tendered as exhibits before the court relevant pages of the university’s calendar for 1976 and admission brochure for degrees.
